Nigeria’s women’s football stars have taken center stage once again as Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, and several Nigerian teams and coaches earned multiple nominations for the 2025 CAF Awards
The Confederation of African Football unveiled the women’s categories on Friday, with Nigeria dominating across several sections.
Ajibade was shortlisted for the African Player of the Year award alongside her Super Falcons teammate Esther Okoronkwo, who bagged the Woman of the Match award in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Ajibade, who led Nigeria to their record-extending 10th WAFCON crown, was voted Player of the Tournament and picked up three Woman of the Match awards during the campaign. The PSG forward contributed a goal and two assists to the Falcons’ success.
Okoronkwo, who plays for AFC Toronto in Canada, also impressed with two goals and four assists, cementing her place among Africa’s elite.
In the Goalkeeper of the Year category, Chiamaka Nnadozie of Brighton & Hove Albion has earned her third consecutive nomination. Having won the last two editions, the 24-year-old shot-stopper will aim to make it three in a row.
The Super Falcons are also up for National Team of the Year, while their coach, Justine Madugu, was nominated for Women’s Coach of the Year after guiding the team to glory in Morocco.
Nigeria’s U-17 side, the Flamingos, were equally recognized, earning a nomination for National Team of the Year after an unbeaten World Cup qualifying campaign. Their coach, Bankole Olowookere, also received a nod for Coach of the Year.
Flamingos captain Shakirat Moshood made the shortlist for CAF Young Player of the Year, further highlighting Nigeria’s youth strength.
Rounding off the list, Bayelsa Queens, winners of the 2025 Nigerian Women’s Football League, received a Club of the Year nomination and will compete against continental giants such as Mamelodi Sundowns, ASFAR, TP Mazembe, and Gaborone United.
Nigeria’s strong showing across nearly every category once again cements its reputation as the powerhouse of women’s football in Africa.
