Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai has been returned to the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) after being temporarily released to attend his mother’s burial
El-Rufai was granted compassionate leave on March 27, 2026, following the death of his mother in Cairo. She was later buried in Abuja on Sunday, with several prominent political figures in attendance.

On Tuesday, he was re-arraigned upon his return and first appeared before the Kaduna State High Court in connection with a separate ICPC charge. However, the case could not proceed due to the absence of a co-defendant, leading to an adjournment until April 10, 2026.
He was subsequently taken before the Federal High Court in Kaduna for the hearing of his bail application, which had been scheduled for March 31, 2026.
After the court sessions, El-Rufai was returned to ICPC custody as proceedings in the cases against him continue.
