Nigerian singer Portable has sparked controversy online after voicing criticism of religious leaders over what he sees as their inaction during the country’s escalating insecurity.
In a statement shared on his handle, the artist questioned why pastors have not been more vocal in defending their congregations amid widespread violence.
“Why are Nigerian pastors not fighting for Christians? They use bullet proof cars yet their followers are dying,” he said, expressing frustration over the perceived disconnect between church leaders and their members.
Portable also urged pastors to take a more active stance, proposing that they should organize protests to demand government accountability.
“Why can’t pastors lead protest to the Aso Rock?” he asked, referencing the seat of Nigeria’s presidency.
He drew attention to what he sees as differing responses in other religious communities, suggesting that attacks on Muslims often provoke stronger reactions.
“You can’t harm a Muslim and there won’t be chaos,” he added.
The comments have ignited a lively debate online, with many weighing in on the role of religious leaders in times of national crisis.
