The Federal Government has ordered the immediate withdrawal and deactivation of Nigerian passports issued to individuals who have officially renounced their citizenship

The directive was issued by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement shared on Saturday via the ministry’s official X handle, directing the Nigeria Immigration Service to enforce compliance without delay.

According to a statement signed by the minister’s media aide, Alao Babatunde, the order applies strictly to individuals whose renunciation of Nigerian citizenship has been formally approved by the President in accordance with constitutional provisions.

Tunji-Ojo explained that the policy is designed to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s citizenship system and curb any potential misuse of official travel documents.
