The Nigerian Navy has confirmed the arrest of personnel involved in a public altercation with other military officers in Bayelsa State during President Bola Tinubu’s official visit on Friday
The incident, which has gone viral on social media, was captured in a 53-second video showing a heated confrontation between uniformed personnel attached to different military units.

In the footage, a driver of a Hilux vehicle marked “Naval Police” is seen stepping out and exchanging words with another driver. Moments later, after returning to his vehicle, a soldier carrying a rifle approaches and strikes the Naval Police driver, triggering a violent clash.
The situation quickly escalated into a chaotic free-for-all, with personnel from both sides engaging in physical confrontation while stunned onlookers watched.
The incident reportedly occurred as President Bola Tinubu was departing an official event during his visit to the state, although the exact cause of the altercation has not yet been confirmed.
Reacting to the development, Director of Naval Information, Abi Folorunso, confirmed in a post on his X handle on Saturday that those involved have been taken into custody and are facing disciplinary action.
“The affected personnel are in custody and already undergoing appropriate administrative and disciplinary procedures in accordance with extant military regulations,” he stated.
