The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to 75 years imprisonment for his role in the diversion of about ₦33.8 billion in public funds.

Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgment, convicting Mamman on all 12 counts of fraud and money laundering brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The court imposed seven years imprisonment on each of 10 counts, while handing down three years and two years on counts four and five respectively. It further ordered that the sentences run consecutively, with no option of fine except on count four, where a ₦10 million fine was permitted.

Justice Omotosho also ordered the forfeiture of several assets traced to the convict, including foreign currencies recovered during investigation and four luxury properties located in Abuja.

Mamman was previously convicted in absentia on May 7 after the court found that the EFCC had proven his guilt beyond reasonable doubt in case FHC/ABJ/CR/273/2024.

The court held that the former minister, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, was culpable in the illegal diversion of public funds and unlawful cash transactions, including a $655,700 payment (about ₦200 million) used to acquire landed property in Abuja without passing through a financial institution.
