President Bola Tinubu has assured that all those kidnapped during the recent attack on schools in Oyo State will be rescued, while condemning the mu.rder of one of the abducted teachers
The assurance was conveyed in a statement released on Monday by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Gunmen had stormed the Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area on Friday, kidnapping pupils, students and staff members from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, as well as L.A. Primary School.
According to the presidency, security agencies have intensified operations to secure the release of the victims and arrest those responsible for the attack, including alleged collaborators within the community.
Reacting to reports that one of the kidnapped teachers was killed, Tinubu described the act as cruel and inhumane. He also expressed sympathy to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the state government and affected families.
“I am saddened by the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped by the gunmen who invaded the community. I sympathise with Governor Seyi Makinde and commend the steps he has taken on the matter. I sympathise with the families of the kidnapped victims,” the President said.
Tinubu further stated that the Federal Government is collaborating with the Oyo State Government to ensure the safe return of all abductees. He praised the Inspector-General of Police and police commissioners in Oyo and Kwara states for swiftly deploying tactical units and the Intelligence Response Team.
“The IGP, following my instructions, is personally leading the tech-driven operation. We expect a breakthrough soon. The bandits and all their local collaborators will be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law,” he added.
The President also renewed calls for the creation of state police, saying rising kidnapping incidents highlight the urgent need for decentralised policing across underserved communities.
