SkyB says he feels abandoned by Burna Boy

Nigerian singer SkyB has voiced his frustration over what he describes as neglect from some of the artistes he once supported, particularly those from Port Harcourt who have gone on to achieve national and international success.

Speaking during a recent interview on the KAA Truth podcast, the singer said artistes who witnessed the early days of the city’s music movement have not received the recognition they deserve.

He noted that several stars enjoyed encouragement and opportunities from him before finding success in the industry.

SkyB reserved special attention for Burna Boy, arguing that established artistes should acknowledge and uplift those who contributed to the growth of the music culture that helped shape their careers

“What is annoying me most now is Burna Boy coming into limelight and not remembering me and those who paved the way for Port Harcourt musicians. ‘He is supposed to support me financially or collaborate with me to rejuvenate my career”, he said.

The singer explained that his concerns go beyond personal gain, stressing that many pioneers have been left behind while younger artistes continue to enjoy the rewards of an industry they helped nurture.

According to SkyB, stronger support systems within the entertainment space would make it easier for veteran acts to remain relevant and continue contributing to the growth of Nigerian music.
