Nigerian social commentator Daniel Regha has taken aim at what he describes as a clear inconsistency in how people react to public posts.
His reaction followed his comparison of a recent post by British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua with the response to his own similar content.
Regha said the issue began after Anthony Joshua shared a photo or video of himself spending time with a goat, which attracted warm, affectionate comments from users.
According to him, the same kind of moment showing himself with his own goat did not receive the same response.
He said the difference in reaction was frustrating and unfair:
“Awwww reactions flying up and down. But when I posed with mine, it was insults everywhere,” he said. There’s no difference between his goat and mine. Same brown and white, same well treated, and bonding time. Y’all are hypocrites.”
What he is essentially pointing out is that, in his view, people are responding more to the identity of the person in the photo than to what is actually happening in the photo itself.
Regha said that the situation reveals a bias in how ordinary users and public figures are treated online, even when the content is nearly identical.
