Comedian Bovi Ugboma has shared an unusual take on marriage, saying he believes relationships would work differently if they came with an expiry date.
Speaking on a podcast, Bovi said he thinks every marriage should last for five years before the couple decides whether they want to continue or go their separate ways.
In his view, if a husband is no longer happy after the five-year period, he should be free to leave instead of feeling trapped in the marriage.
He also said that knowing a marriage is nearing the end of its agreed term could change how some people behave. Bovi said that when there’s only one year left before the contract expires, many women would likely make a conscious effort to improve their attitude and become easier to live with in order to keep the marriage going.
The comedian’s comments offered a different perspective on commitment, arguing that a fixed-term arrangement could encourage couples to put more effort into making their relationships work rather than taking them for granted.
