VeryDarkMan associate known as Jojo of Lele has questioned the sharp increase in the cost of hiring a waste disposal truck for Ratels’ monthly environmental cleaning.
According to her, the group used to pay ₦250,000 for the service before the fee was increased to ₦300,000. The cost later rose to ₦450,000, and they are now being asked to pay ₦800,000 for their next cleaning exercise.
She expressed frustration over the increase, especially because the waste collected is generated during the community’s cleaning exercise.
In a post, she said:
“Una know say we dey clean road every end of the month, Saturdays, and we use to rent dustbin van to come and pack the dirt. Before, we paid ₦250k. Before we knew it, they moved it to ₦300k.
“The last time was ₦450k. Now we’re planning for our next cleaning, and they are now telling us ₦800k. Like, una no fear?
“₦800k to come and pack dirt that is not ours. And the worst part is that they will tell you that if their truck is full, they won’t come back.
“Even me that I’m staying in an estate here in Lagos, how much am I paying monthly? Maybe ₦3k to ₦4k, or at most ₦5k?”.
Jojo also compared the cost with what residents in her Lagos estate pay monthly for waste disposal, noting that the amount is usually around ₦3,000 to ₦5,000.
The latest increase means the group will now have to budget almost twice what it paid the last time for the same waste collection service.
