Social Media commentator Opeyemi Famakin has questioned the role of tribalism in discussions about fake d.rugs in Nigeria, asking why people continue to focus on ethnic differences when the problem affects everyone.
He made the point while addressing Igbo people, stating that Kano is the second-largest hub for fake d.rugs in the country and referring to another ethnic group as being linked to the number one position.
In a post he shared, he said:
“Dear Igbo people let’s talk. The Number 2 hub of making fake drugs in Nigeria is Kano. We know the tribe that are in Number 1.
“Are you guys not tired of using tribalism and Igbophobia? All of us are dying of fake drugs. What are you guys doing?” .
However, the issue goes beyond ethnic differences, as fake d.rugs pose a serious th.reat to public health across Nigeria. Addressing the problem requires accountability, proper enforcement of drug safety laws and a collective effort to protect lives, regardless of tribe or background.
