African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has vowed that Nigeria will qualify for every FIFA World Cup during his proposed eight-year tenure if elected president in 2027
Sowore made the declaration on Saturday, August 29, 2026, in Enugu, while participating in the Enugu City International Marathon.
Speaking on his plans for Nigerian sports, the presidential candidate said his administration would prioritise sports development and ensure the country consistently competes at the global level.
“If I’m president of Nigeria, we are not missing any World Cup for my eight years. I’ll make sure that happens,” Sowore said.
Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, missing the tournament for the first time since 2018 after a disappointing qualification campaign.
Sowore said his government would seek to reposition Nigerian sports and make the country a major sporting hub in Africa.
