Sowore recalls buying $7 meal for Amaechi and Dino Melaye 😆

Omoyele Sowore has recounted how he bought food worth $7 for Rotimi Amaechi and Dino Melaye at his office in New York, saying the two men could not finish the meal.

Speaking during an interview on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast, Sowore said Amaechi visited his office for an interview while travelling for activities involving the All Progressives Congress (APC). Melaye was also present.

Sowore said he noticed dollar bills sticking out of Amaechi’s pocket after the interview ended.

“The second time, Amaechi came to my office in New York to be interviewed when they were doing their APC activities. He was passing through, and even Dino Melaye came,” he said.

“When we finished the interview, he adjusted his suit, and dollar bills were sticking out of his pocket. The footage is still available.”

He said he later took Amaechi downstairs and bought food for him and Melaye, using the experience to explain why he believed Amaechi struggled to keep his feelings to himself.

“When he finished, I told him, ‘Amaechi, you don’t know me.’ I took him downstairs and bought him food worth $7. That is what I do for all of them. They couldn’t even finish the food,” Sowore said.

He added that he wanted Amaechi to understand that he was in a position to pay for his meal.

“You see now, I can afford to buy you food,” he said he told the former Rivers State governor.

Sowore also said Amaechi would have spoken publicly if he had any serious grievance against him.

“What I am trying to tell you is that if Amaechi had anything against me, he would have said so,” he said.

He then criticised Amaechi’s ability to keep his feelings in check.

“Amaechi doesn’t have emotional intelligence. He can’t hold anything back. If he gives me even a dime, he will remind me of it,” Sowore said.

He linked the tension between them to an earlier confrontation in Port Harcourt, where he challenged Amaechi over his record as governor, including the Rivers State monorail project.

“He would have said it there in Port Harcourt because he was really pained that I challenged him. I stood up to him, and he didn’t expect that to happen to him in Port Harcourt, where he was told that his monorail had become a museum,” he added.
