Lekki Gardens Trial: You Must Produce Defendants In Court Today, Judge Tells Police

After the policemen from the State Department of Criminal
Investigation, Yaba, Lagos failed to produce the Managing Director of Lekki
Gardens, Richard Nyong, and a contractor, Odofin Taiwo, in court yesterday, a
Chief Magistrate of the Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court, has ordered the
officers to produce the defendants in court TODAY.
It will be recalled that their matter was heard yesterday
and the defendants lawyers had wanted to table their bail matter before the
Police informed the court that they were on able to bring the defendants to
court because they had information that some hoodlums were planning to attack
    the court.

The chief magistrate then adjourned the case to Thursday (today),
March 24th, ordering the defendants to be produced in court.
Nyong and Taiwo were arrested by the police for the collapse
of a five-storeyed building in the Lekki area, in which no fewer than 35 people
were killed and were arraigned in court on the 11th of March. The
police had filed an application for their remand pending the conclusion of
    investigations.
