Nigerian Instagram influencer and actress, Abike Shugga, has reopened discussions around her alleged fallout with filmmaker Toyin Abraham, offering her own account of events that previously sparked controversy online
Abike, who has appeared in productions such as Jenifa’s Diary, Agoalago and Malika, had earlier been criticised in 2023 over claims of ingratitude and alleged unprofessional conduct after she reportedly shifted focus from one movie project to another, a situation that triggered widespread online debate.
In her recent narration, Abike explained that her journey into Nollywood began after her days as a TV presenter and an audition at Scene One Productions, where she first came into contact with Funke Akindele through her then-husband, JJC Skillz.
She also said her relationship with Toyin Abraham started during the COVID-19 lockdown after she posted about buying a sewing machine to learn fashion design, a post that reportedly went viral and caught Toyin’s attention.
According to her, Toyin reached out, offered support, and later facilitated opportunities for her in the industry, including roles in Agoalago and Jenifa’s Diary, while also encouraging her participation in promotional and content activities. Abike claimed she was paid modest sums for content sessions and received ₦50,000 for a two-week shoot on Agoalago, alongside other smaller payments for promotional work.

She further alleged that tensions began when she accepted promotional work linked to Funke Akindele’s projects, despite previously working closely with Toyin Abraham. Abike claimed this led to disapproval from Toyin, including alleged voice notes, instructions to delete certain posts, and strained communication, which she says eventually affected her career opportunities.
Abike also alleged she lost a role after a producer reportedly said she should not be cast due to external pressure, though she did not provide specific details. She maintained that she was never “picked from nowhere,” insisting she was already building her career before gaining wider recognition.
In response, Toyin Abraham has previously dismissed parts of the narrative, describing Abike as someone she considers “like a daughter” and stating that she would not publicly engage in the matter. She also rejected claims suggesting unusually large payments were made to upcoming actors, including figures mentioned by Abike.
