Airline accepts VDM and Mr Jollof apology

United Nigeria Airlines has accepted the apology videos released by Martins “VeryDarkMan (VDM)” Otse and comedian Freedom “Mr Jollof” Atsepoyi after their altercation earlier this week

The incident occurred on Monday, November 17, 2025, while both men were boarding Flight UN0523 from Asaba International Airport, Delta State, to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, drawing national attention and condemnation from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, vowed that both men would be held accountable under the law.

On Tuesday, VDM and Mr Jollof posted apology videos on their Instagram accounts, expressing regret to the NCAA, the airline, passengers, and the public. Mr Jollof explained that he had acted in self-defense after being provoked by VDM, alleging the dispute arose from long-standing claims of infidelity against his wife, which are currently the subject of an ongoing court case.

In a statement released on Thursday, United Nigeria Airlines, through its Public Relations Officer Chibuike Uloka, acknowledged and accepted the apologies. The airline emphasized that it expects both men to honor their commitments to refrain from behavior that could compromise aviation safety, order, or decorum.

“United Nigeria Airlines acknowledges and accepts the public apologies issued by VeryDarkMan and Mr Jollof following the onboard altercation during the boarding of Flight UN0523 from Asaba to Lagos. We take note of their commitments expressed via social media to refrain from any conduct that could compromise aviation safety, order, or decorum onboard United Nigeria Airlines flights or any other airline,” the statement read.

The airline also expressed appreciation for the swift intervention of the NCAA, Airport Security (AVSEC), other relevant aviation agencies, and the Asaba International Airport Authority, while commending its crew and operational teams for handling the situation professionally and in line with established safety protocols.

United Nigeria Airlines reiterated its alignment with the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) and other regulatory bodies in efforts to curb unruly passenger behavior. The airline urged travelers to cooperate fully with airline personnel, security agencies, and airport authorities to maintain the safety and integrity of air travel in Nigeria.

“United Nigeria Airlines remains committed to delivering safe, reliable, and dignified service to all our passengers across our networks. United Nigeria Airlines — Flying to Unite!” the statement concluded.
