Negotiations between Bala Mohammed and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have broken down, with talks involving a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State ending without agreement
The discussions, led by the Tanimu Turaki-backed PDP faction, were confirmed to have collapsed by its chairman, Samaila Adamu Burga, who briefed journalists in Bauchi on Saturday.
Burga said the APC failed to show willingness to accommodate both the existing party structure and the state government in any proposed arrangement.

He explained that the APC, through its National Chairman Prof. Yiltwada Netanwe and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, had initially engaged Governor Mohammed in talks aimed at persuading him to defect.
However, the negotiations reportedly fell apart after the APC rejected a proposed 60/40 power-sharing formula for control of party structures in the state, alongside other conditions.
“This arrangement has been adopted in other states where governors defected to the APC, but they turned it down. That effectively ended the discussions,” Burga said.
“You cannot expect a sitting government that is bringing its full structure from the ward level to the state to have no significant control of the party,” he added.
Burga noted that Governor Mohammed personally led the discussions, but consultations with key PDP stakeholders later showed that the conditions set by both sides could not be reconciled.
“In light of this, we wish to announce that the discussions have not yielded a conclusive outcome and are hereby formally discontinued,” he said.
He further disclosed that the faction is now exploring other political options, including possible alliances ahead of a final decision.
“We are open to discussions with other political parties. While we appreciate the engagement from the APC, that chapter is now closed,” he added.
