The Senate on Wednesday passed constitutional amendment bills aimed at establishing state police across Nigeria

The approval came after lawmakers considered the proposed framework and voted in support of the measure.

Before the voting process, senators agreed to adopt manual voting after the electronic voting system developed a technical fault.

The decision followed concerns that some lawmakers might be unable to cast their votes if the chamber continued with the malfunctioning device.

Under the manual voting arrangement, senators were required to stand up individually, state their names and publicly declare their positions on the proposed state police framework.

The motion seeking the adoption of manual voting was moved by Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, and was subsequently approved by the chamber.
