Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has promised assistance for renters in response to mounting concerns over the country’s housing crisis

In a televised press conference held in Vancouver, he stressed the importance of supporting renters, particularly young Canadians who spend a significant portion of their income on rent.
The Liberal government has been struggling with a severe housing shortage that is worsened by high-interest rates, soaring property prices, slow housing development, and a record influx of immigrants.
Recent opinion polls suggest that people are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the housing situation, and the official opposition Conservatives are gaining support.
To address these issues, Trudeau has announced plans to allocate C$15 million in the upcoming April 16 budget to strengthen legal aid services.
The aim is to protect tenants from unjustified rent hikes and unscrupulous landlords.
Additionally, measures will be put in place to recognize on-time rent payments as a positive factor when renters apply for their first mortgage.
