Billionaire industrialist and Dangote Group chairman, Dr. Aliko Dangote, has petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), calling for a probe into the activities of Farouk Ahmed, Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA)
The petition, submitted on Tuesday through Dangote’s legal team led by Dr. Ogwu James Onoja, SAN, urged the anti-graft agency to investigate, arrest, and prosecute Ahmed over allegations that he has lived far beyond what his official income as a public servant could reasonably support.

Dangote alleged that Ahmed paid more than $7 million in advance tuition fees for four of his children enrolled in schools across Switzerland, covering a six-year period. The petition reportedly listed the names of the children and the institutions they attend as part of the materials provided to support the request for investigation.
According to the businessman, the scale of the payments raises serious questions, particularly as Ahmed’s entire career has been in public service. Dangote argued that such expenses could not have been financed legitimately from official earnings alone.
He further accused the NMDPRA boss of diverting public funds through the agency to cover personal family expenses, describing the alleged conduct as a direct misuse of resources meant to serve Nigerians.
“It is without doubt that the above facts in relation to abuse of office, breach of Code of Conduct for public officers, corrupt enrichment, and embezzlement are gross acts of corrupt practices for which your Commission (ICPC) is statutorily empowered under section 19 of the ICPC Act to investigate and prosecute,” Dangote stated in the petition.
He noted that the law prescribes stiff penalties for such offences, adding that conviction could attract a five-year jail term without the option of a fine.
Dangote urged the ICPC to discharge its statutory mandate without hesitation, stressing that anti-corruption agencies play a critical role in safeguarding public institutions and holding officials accountable.
“We make bold to state that the ICPC is strategically positioned, along with sister agencies, to prosecute financial crimes and other corruption-related offences, and upon establishing a prima facie case, the courts do not hesitate to punish offenders,” the petition added.
He also expressed readiness to personally appear before the commission to present evidence in support of his claims, while emphasising the importance of transparency and accountability within President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
