In a devastating incident near Leipzig, eastern Germany, several individuals lost their lives, and more than 20 sustained injuries following a coach crash on Wednesday, confirmed by local police and the bus company operating the vehicle.
The collision occurred on the A9 motorway, a vital route connecting Berlin and Munich, leaving a Flixbus overturned after veering off the roadway. Initial reports suggest at least five fatalities, with numerous others injured in the accident.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, with ambulances and helicopters deployed to aid the victims. The section of the A9 motorway bound for Munich was temporarily shut down to facilitate the rescue operation.
Flixbus, the company managing the coach, expressed cooperation with authorities to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragic event. The coach, en route from Berlin to Zurich, carried 53 passengers and two drivers at the time of the crash.
