Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Friday, September 12, warmly welcomed conjoined twins Hassana and Hussaina back home after their successful separation surgery in Saudi Arabia
The twins, accompanied by their parents, arrived at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, where they were received with joy by government officials, community leaders, and representatives of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The intricate separation was performed at King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital in Riyadh under the directives of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The operation spanned 14 hours, divided into nine phases, and involved 38 medical experts, including paediatric surgeons and neurospecialists, as the twins were joined at the lower abdomen, pelvis, and spine.
Saudi Arabia’s Consul General, Khalil Ahmed Al-Admawi, described the surgery as part of the country’s humanitarian efforts, highlighting that the Saudi Siamese Twins Separation Program has now successfully completed 65 separations over the past 35 years.
Governor Yusuf, who personally received the twins and their parents at the airport, commended the Saudi medical team for their dedication and skill. He described the successful surgery as a miracle, bringing hope not only to the family but to the entire Kano community.
The governor assured that the Kano State Government would fully support the welfare and education of Hassana and Hussaina. He revealed plans to enroll them in a special scholarship programme covering primary, secondary, and university education.
Governor Yusuf also promised ongoing medical and psychological support for the family, noting that their story underscores the value of compassion, international cooperation, and investment in healthcare.
