A judge has rebuked the father of a teenage driver for indulging his son, who caused a fatal accident months after his father took the blame for a speeding ticket on his behalf.
Owain Hammett-George, aged 17 at the time, crashed his car, killing two friends, after driving at high speeds on a 30mph road just months after obtaining his license.
The judge condemned his father, Dewi George, for fostering such behaviour by taking the blame for his son’s previous speeding offence. Hammett-George, now 19, was sentenced to six years in prison for causing death by dangerous driving.
The tragic incident has sparked discussions about the responsibility of new drivers and the consequences of overindulgence.
