The Federal Government has reportedly transferred Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), from the Department of State Services (DSS) detention facility to a correctional center
IPOB’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed the move on X on Friday, November, saying Kanu, who had been held at the DSS facility in Abuja since his arrest, was relocated to Sokoto, putting him far from his family, lawyers, and supporters.

Ejimakor wrote on X, “Breaking: MAZI NNAMDI KANU has just been moved from DSS Abuja to the correctional facility (prison) in Sokoto; so far away from his lawyers, family, loved ones, and well-wishers.”
This comes a day after a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment for terrorism-related offenses. Justice James Omotosho convicted him on all seven charges brought by the DSS.
In delivering the judgment, Justice Omotosho noted that Kanu’s crimes were grave enough to warrant the death penalty. However, citing scriptural guidance and a sense of mercy, the judge opted for a life sentence instead, adding that Kanu showed no remorse for his actions.
