The Nasarawa State Police Command has denied reports claiming that pupils of St. Peter’s Foundation Secondary School in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area, were abducted on Friday

In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer Ramhan Nansel described the viral reports circulating on social media and some news outlets as “false” and not reflective of the actual events.

The panic reportedly began when students heading to the school field for Physical and Health Education classes spotted armed hunters in the area. Mistaking them for kidnappers, the students fled, but were later escorted back to the school by their teachers.

Nansel said that Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed immediately deployed a joint team of police officers and military personnel in the area following the initial distress call.

“Upon arrival, it was discovered that the pupils had sighted some hunters carrying Dane guns and, out of fear, fled, mistaking them for kidnappers. The area was thoroughly combed, and normalcy was immediately restored,” the statement said.

The school proprietor also confirmed that no abduction occurred, describing the alarm as false. Security operatives continue to monitor the area to prevent any potential threat.

The police command urged the public to ignore the circulating reports and advised journalists and media outlets to verify information before publication to avoid unnecessary panic.

“The report is mere rumour unworthy of publication as factual news,” the statement added.
