King Charles III is inviting visitors to explore Balmoral Castle this summer, offering rare access to the royal retreat in Scotland. The tickets, priced at £100 ($126), sold out within 24 hours.
Balmoral, nestled in Scotland’s Cairngorms National Park, has been a cherished hideaway for the royal family since 1852. Despite its rocky start – the original castle was too small, prompting the construction of a larger one nearby – Balmoral has provided comfort and privacy during times of crisis.
For the first time in its history, select areas of the castle will be open to the public, showcasing the estate’s rich history and stunning scenery. Visitors will embark on an hour-long tour, exploring the castle’s past and present, including an exhibition of King Charles’s watercolor artworks.
After the tour, guests can enjoy traditional afternoon tea at the onsite restaurant for an extra £50. Balmoral’s grounds have witnessed many royal moments, from family picnics to somber reflections.
While Balmoral has hosted limited tours before, this initiative offers unprecedented access, providing a glimpse into royal life. The estate’s cottages are also available for booking, offering a chance encounter with the royal family.
As King Charles and Queen Camilla prepare for their summer retreat, visitors can commemorate their visit with homemade preserves or Balmoral whisky from the Mews Gift Shop, ensuring a lasting memory of this royal experience.
