A Nigerian entertainer known as KokoPee has announced a ₦1 million reward for anyone who can help identify a police officer seen during a recent protest.
The offer follows public attention on a video from the demonstration in which the officer appeared visibly affected by the protesters’ concerns.
According to KokoPee, the decision was driven by the officer’s apparent emotional response during the protest. He stated that the officer seemed to understand the issues being raised by demonstrators but was constrained by his position as a serving member of the police force.
In his statement, KokoPee explained that he wanted to appreciate the officer financially, saying the reaction showed awareness of the public’s grievances even within the security services.
He also drew a broader comparison, noting that prompt responses from police officers are often influenced by expectations of reward, particularly when dealing with wealthier individuals.
He stated:
“I’m looking for this Nigerian police officer to give him 1 million naira. The way he felt during the protest shows he knows what we are complaining about is true, but because he is an officer, he can’t join the protest.
We Nigerians need to learn how to appreciate officers financially. The reason why police officers quickly respond to a rich man’s cry is because they know the rich man will definitely reward them.”
