Just a day after losing four members to rival parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faced another setback on Thursday as six of its lawmakers in the House of Representatives defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC)
The Labour Party (LP) was also affected, losing five of its lawmakers amid intensifying political realignments ahead of the next electoral cycle.

During plenary, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu attributed the recent wave of defections to ongoing internal crises within opposition parties.
The PDP members who joined the APC include Bitrus Kwamoti, Zakaria Nyampa, James Barka, and Kobis Thinmu from Adamawa State, along with Mohammed Bargaja from Sokoto and Midala Balami from Borno.
The Labour Party lost Afam Ogene, Lilian Orogbu, and Peter Aniekwe from Anambra State to the ADC, while Jessy Onuakalusi from Lagos State and Osaro Omoruyi from Edo State also moved to the ADC. Additionally, Peter Uzokwe, an Anambra lawmaker elected on the Young Progressives Party platform, joined the ADC.
Welcoming the new APC members, Kalu described the ruling party as a broad-based platform open to all Nigerians, saying the growing membership reflects confidence in the party’s leadership and policies.
He noted, “Some of our colleagues want to move to the APC. We have their letters here, but we cannot officially announce their defections in their absence.”
These latest shifts are part of a wider trend of political realignments across the country, as key opposition figures explore new alliances beyond traditional party lines.
