The man, identified as Umar Mohammed from Anguwan Muazu in Kaduna, disrupted proceedings on Thursday during the commissioning of key infrastructure projects at Murtala Mohammed Square, where President Tinubu was delivering a speech.

In a statement on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, revealed that Umar had been screened and admitted into the venue as a supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was dressed in a campaign T-shirt and carried banners featuring President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani.

The police explained that Umar suddenly breached the security barrier in a moment of heightened emotion, attempting to get closer to the President. Security operatives immediately intervened and restrained him.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that Umar Mohammed breached the protocol by entering the restricted perimeter and jumping into the arena out of curiosity and excitement,” DSP Hassan said. “He acted out of anxiety and a long-held desire to meet the President and the Governor. Medical records confirm he suffers from psychiatric disorders and is not of sound mind.”

The police further stated that the incident had been misrepresented in viral videos and urged the public not to politicize the matter. “The video was doctored to mislead viewers and distort what truly happened,” the statement noted.

Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, also advised the public against spreading misinformation, assuring that the matter was under further review.

The incident occurred as President Tinubu commissioned several major projects initiated by Governor Uba Sani, including a 300-bed specialist hospital and 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses.

Despite the brief commotion, President Tinubu remained composed and was seen instructing security agents, “Leave him alone,” before continuing his address. Governor Sani was also seen gesturing to de-escalate the situation.
