The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), is celebrating a historic milestone with Deputy Superintendent of Customs (Pilot) Olanike Nafisat Balogun, becoming the first female customs pilot
This achievement marks a groundbreaking moment in the service’s aviation history.
According to Abdullahi Maiwada, the Customs’ National Public Relations Officer, Balogun hails from Odo-Otin Local Government Area in Osun State but was born in Kaduna. She joined the NCS in 2002 as a customs assistant and has since charted an inspiring career path.
Initially serving as a cabin crew member in the air wing unit, Balogun’s determination and ambition led her to pursue a career as a pilot.
Reflecting on her journey, she revealed the challenges she faced and her decision to prioritize public service over more lucrative opportunities in the private aviation sector.
“It was a tough decision, but my goal was to contribute to public service and achieve my dream of becoming a pilot,” she said.
Balogun’s accomplishments include an advanced diploma in Air Ticketing and Cabin Services, a master’s degree in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, and her pilot certification from the Flying Academy in Miami, Florida, sponsored by the NCS.
“Becoming the first female pilot in the NCS Airwing reflects my commitment to advancing both my dreams and the operational capabilities of the NCS,” she said, encouraging young Nigerians, especially women, to pursue their goals with determination.
