Former Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, has shared the personal experience that led him to completely give up alcohol
Speaking in a video from a recent church programme, he explained that although he had become a born-again Christian and was already serving in ministry as a preacher, he still occasionally drank alcohol at the time, considering it harmless. He said he often justified it by pointing to the biblical account of Jesus turning water into wine.

According to him, the decision to stop came after a Sunday service he had just conducted. He stopped by a restaurant afterward to get alcohol, but noticed something unusual when he walked in—several people who were drinking quickly hid their bottles and glasses upon seeing him.
He said the moment unsettled him and made him reflect deeply on the weight of his influence as a Christian leader and the example his private actions set for others.
That reflection, he noted, brought him to the conclusion that while certain things may be permitted, they are not always beneficial or edifying. From that point, he said he made the firm decision to quit alcohol entirely, a choice he has maintained for years, including during an experience he referenced in Mogadishu.
He described the decision as a turning point that strengthened his faith and reshaped his personal discipline, stressing the importance of aligning private behaviour with public belief.
