The Osun State Government has announced the immediate removal of Oba Gbenga Joseph Oloyede as the Apetumodu of Ipetumodu
The decision was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, who said it followed consultations, legal review, and approval by the State Executive Council.

According to the government, the action was taken under the provisions of the Osun State Chiefs Law (as amended) and other relevant legal frameworks governing traditional institutions in the state.
Explaining the basis for the decision, the government stated:
“Oba Oloyede was convicted in the United States over offences related to COVID-19 fraud and is currently serving a prison sentence.
“The decision was reached after due consultation, legal consideration and approval by the State Executive Council.”
Following the development, the government also confirmed that all instruments of authority previously given to the monarch, including the staff of office, have been withdrawn.
It further declared the stool of the Apetumodu of Ipetumodu vacant, adding that steps will be taken in line with customary and legal procedures to fill the position.
“The government will, in due course, outline the process for succession in line with established customary and legal procedures,” Alimi said.
