Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has announced a brief pause from public engagements following medical advice to rest

In a post on his official X account on Saturday, the former Anambra State governor said he began feeling unwell while attending an event in Enugu. After consulting a doctor, he was prescribed medication and advised to rest for one to two days.

“In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend. I sincerely apologise for any inconveniences this might cause and humbly plead for understanding,” Obi wrote.

He also highlighted his recent activities before the health scare, including attending a tourism event in Enugu and visiting Good Hope Specialist Hospital in Isulo, Orumba South LGA, Anambra State, where he contributed ₦10 million to support the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria in acquiring and revitalising the hospital.

Obi praised the Diocese’s plan to develop the facility into a full-fledged health complex with a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology, describing investment in healthcare as “one of the most meaningful for the country.”

From Isulo, Obi travelled to Owerri, Imo State, to attend a dinner hosted by Barrister Nnaemeka Maduagwu in honour of former Kaduna State governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
