The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the House of Representatives member for Kiru/Bebeji constituency, over allegations of anti-party activities and failure to pay his mandatory party dues

Announcing the decision on Saturday in Kano, the state NNPP chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, said Jibrin’s repeated media attacks on the party and its leadership left them with no choice.

The expulsion comes just a day after Jibrin suggested it would not be surprising if he left the NNPP, insisting he was old enough to decide his political future.

Dungurawa, however, dismissed his claims of political strength, describing him as a “weak politician” whose victory was only possible because of the Kwankwasiyya movement and NNPP platform. “If he was truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong,” he said.

He explained that a reconciliation committee was initially set up after Jibrin’s controversial Channels Television interview, but his subsequent public comments and open declaration of loyalty elsewhere showed he had crossed the line. “Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” he added.

Dungurawa also accused Jibrin of defaulting on party dues and vowed to pursue legal action to recover the funds. “We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” he said.

Reacting to speculation that Jibrin might return to the APC, the NNPP chairman maintained that such a move would not affect the party, stressing that politics is about groups and coalitions, and the Kwankwasiyya movement remains firmly behind its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
