Former Kogi West senator Dino Melaye has officially been called to the Nigerian Bar
Melaye marked the achievement on Thursday by sharing photos from the ceremony, including one in which he wore a barrister’s robe and wig. He captioned the image, “Done and dusted.” Another photo featured him posing with fellow lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju.
In April, Melaye had announced that he passed the Bar final examinations, writing: “Law school results are out. I made it to the largest bar in Africa. Who did it? God did it.”
He studied law at Baze University in Abuja after earning a degree in geography from Ahmadu Bello University.
In 2021, his team had claimed he was the best graduating student from Baze’s law faculty, but later reports indicated he graduated with a second-class lower degree.
Despite the controversy, Melaye has now joined the ranks of Nigerian lawyers, becoming one of the few former lawmakers to be called to the Bar after leaving public office.
Known for his flamboyant persona and vocal political style, the former senator now adds “lawyer” to his list of credentials.
