Governor Seyi Makinde expressed concerns that Nigeria risks becoming a one-party state if citizens do not take steps to protect multiparty democracy in the lead-up to the 2027 elections
Speaking at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub, Makinde emphasized the importance of a balanced political landscape, urging Nigerians to avoid concentrating power in one party.
He stated, “We didn’t achieve these things because someone has a presidential ambition. I am old enough to make my own decisions, and if I want to do something, I will say it. No one can push their agenda onto me”.
Makinde also highlighted his independence in political decision-making, reiterating that his role as governor was fueled by grassroots support rather than political godfathers.
He pointed out that his achievements in office are not driven by any personal aspirations but rather by a commitment to serve the people of Oyo State effectively.
