Singer Tems has apologized after mistakenly referring to former U.S. President Barack Obama’s daughter Sasha Obama as “Sandra” during her performance at the opening celebration of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.
The Grammy-winning Nigerian singer addressed the moment shortly after realizing the error, explaining that nerves got the better of her while she was on stage.
“Lord knows i was nervous. Please forgive me,” Tems said, acknowledging the mix-up.
The singer had been speaking to the crowd when she accidentally called Sasha by the wrong name. She then later offered an apology for her mistake.
Sasha Obama, whose full name is Natasha Obama, is the younger daughter of Barack and Michelle Obama. The mistake appeared to be an unintentional slip during the live event.
Tems has enjoyed a remarkable rise on the global music scene in recent years, earning international acclaim for her distinctive sound and collaborations with some of the industry’s biggest artists.
