Tinubu appoints Ogunjimi as New Accountant-General of the Federation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsudeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant-General of the Federation, effective March 7, 2025

His appointment follows the retirement of the outgoing Accountant-General, Oluwatoyin Madehin.

Ogunjimi, 57, was initially announced as Madehin’s successor in December 2024. His selection came after a rigorous evaluation process that included a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews, ensuring the most qualified candidate was chosen.

An alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Ogunjimi graduated in 1990 with a degree in Accountancy. He also holds a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. A fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, he brings extensive experience to his new role.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi and urged him to carry out his duties with integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to national service.
