The Presidency has announced that President Bola Tinubu will return to Abuja today after attending the Aqaba Process Heads of State and Government-level Meeting in Rome, Italy
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga made the disclosure in a statement on Saturday.

Launched in 2015 by His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, the Aqaba Process is a counter-terrorism initiative co-chaired by Jordan and Italy. The Rome session focused on enhancing regional and international cooperation in combating terrorism and violent extremism, with special attention to West Africa.
The high-level meeting took place on Wednesday, October 15, at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome. Attendees included King Abdullah II of Jordan, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and the Presidents of Nigeria, Chad, Paraguay, Sierra Leone, and Togo. Other participants included Azouz Nasri, President of Algeria’s Upper House, delegations from Côte d’Ivoire, Kazakhstan, Mauritania, Senegal, and Uzbekistan, as well as special envoys and security experts. The meeting was held behind closed doors.
On the sidelines, President Tinubu held bilateral talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and U.S. President Donald Trump’s Senior Adviser on Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos. He also met with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin to discuss religious harmony in Nigeria, addressing disinformation campaigns that falsely depict the country as intolerant of religious diversity.
Since its inception, the Aqaba Process has convened 33 meetings at various levels, from Heads of State summits to technical expert sessions, built around three core pillars: prevention, coordination, and closing operational gaps in counterterrorism efforts.
