Human rights lawyer and activist, Barrister Deji Adeyanju, has criticized Peter Obi over the controversy surrounding an alleged airport parking violation at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The controversy followed a statement by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who disclosed the findings of an internal inquiry into the incident. According to Keyamo, CCTV footage showed that Obi arrived at the airport’s domestic terminal on July 4, 2026.
After Obi and other occupants entered the terminal, his police driver allegedly left the official vehicle unattended in a restricted drop-off zone for about 30 minutes.
The minister said airport officials clamped the vehicle’s tyres for violating parking regulations. He further alleged that the driver contacted Obi, who then spoke with airport officials, leading to the vehicle’s release without payment of the standard ₦25,000 parking violation fine. Keyamo maintained that the action taken by airport authorities was routine enforcement of airport regulations and not politically motivated, and called on Obi to apologize to airport officials and pay the fine.
Reacting to the incident, Adeyanju accused Obi of attempting to use influence to avoid paying the fine, describing him as “a very anyhow person.”
He wrote:
“Ordinary N25k fine that most of us have paid at the airport whenever our cars are clamped, a presidential aspirant had to call to peddle influence so he doesn’t pay. Very anyhow person. His driver cannot pay such a fine without calling him, lmao. My driver and my wife’s driver have paid such fines on numerous occasions at the local or international airports. They will only tell us later and show us receipts. How can your driver wrongfully park at the airport and they clamped his tyre be same thing as APC is targeting you? When my driver wrongfully parked at the airport and they clamped my car, did I cry that anyone was targeting me. I blamed my driver and told him to always use his head. The irony of that incident is the fact that his driver does not have N25k to pay a fine at the airport that he had to call his principal to call the airport officials to release him. Kai lmao.”
