Drake has filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) over Kendrick Lamar’s diss track ‘Not Like Us’, reportedly fearing the song could be performed at next year’s Super Bowl halftime show.
The 38-year-old Canadian rapper stunned fans this week by accusing UMG of using illegal tactics, including “bots and a payola scheme,” to promote Kendrick’s hit, which refers to Drake as a “certified pedophile.”
The single was released in May, according to TMZ Hip Hop.
Drake alleged in the legal documents that an “inside source” informed him UMG violated FCC regulations through its promotional practices.
Sources revealed that Drake’s concerns extend to Kendrick, 37, amplifying the song further during his headlining performance at Super Bowl LIX in February.
“Drake is concerned Kendrick will perform ‘Not Like Us’ at the Super Bowl,” an insider said, adding that UMG executives were surprised by the lawsuit.
Some speculate the legal action may be an effort to block Kendrick from performing the track at the high-profile event.
However, the source emphasized that UMG does not intend to sever ties with Drake despite the legal dispute.
“The label has no intention of ending its professional relationship with Drake over this,” the source stated.
