Over 196 Nigerian soldiers, primarily junior cadres, have submitted requests for voluntary retirement to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja
The soldiers, stationed in the North-East and other active regions, cited plans to join foreign military forces, including the British Army, Ukrainian Army, and other Commonwealth nations.
According to SaharaReporters, the list of departing soldiers, obtained on Saturday, does not differentiate between those retiring voluntarily and those leaving due to medical reasons.
Notably, none of the soldiers have reached retirement age or completed the mandatory years of service. Brigadier OH Musa signed the approval of their formal disengagement on August 23.
This development follows reports of widespread dissatisfaction among soldiers regarding poor welfare, inadequate equipment, and lack of motivation within the Nigerian Army.
