LaMonte McLemore, a founding member of the groundbreaking soul-pop group The 5th Dimension, has died at the age of 90.

His death was announced on February 4, 2026, after he passed away peacefully the previous day at his home in Las Vegas, according to his wife, Mieko.

He was surrounded by family and friends at the time of his death. No official cause was released.

McLemore was an original member of The 5th Dimension, one of the most influential vocal groups of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The group helped redefine pop music by blending soul, R&B, and psychedelia, producing era-defining hits such as “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In,” “Up, Up and Away,” and “Wedding Bell Blues.” They earned multiple Grammy Awards and widespread crossover success.

Beyond music, McLemore was also an accomplished photographer whose work appeared in major magazines, making him a rare figure to leave a mark on both sound and image in American pop culture.

His death marks the loss of a key architect of one of music’s most distinctive and optimistic sounds.
