A small aircraft crashed into a residential neighborhood in San Diego, California, early Thursday morning, damaging several homes and setting multiple vehicles ablaze, according to local police
Television footage from the scene showed rows of burnt-out cars and a house that appeared severely damaged in the quiet, low-rise area.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that a Cessna 550 went down around 3:45 a.m. near the Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport.
San Diego police reported that three streets were evacuated as emergency responders worked at the scene. Authorities also urged residents to report any debris or the smell of jet fuel.
According to ABC News, the assistant fire chief described a “gigantic debris field” resulting from the crash, which caused widespread damage to homes and parked vehicles in the area.
