NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, revealed that Opus Racing Promotions has been appointed as Nigeria’s official representative for the ambitious bid to bring the global motorsport event to Abuja.

In a show of seriousness, Dikko extended formal invitations to key F1 stakeholders—including F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, and renowned circuit designers Tilke Engineers & Architects—to visit Nigeria for direct engagement with government and private investors.

“We are exploring all possibilities to bring Formula 1 to Nigeria as soon as practicable—not just as a sporting event, but as a catalytic driver of tourism, infrastructure development, youth engagement, economy and indeed soft power for Nigeria,” Dikko stated.

He emphasized that a Nigerian Grand Prix would boost national pride, drive economic growth, attract private investment, and position sports as a core contributor to GDP and national unity.

While Nigeria pushes its bid, South Africa and Rwanda are also in discussions to host the race. F1 Grands Prix are typically held on purpose-built circuits or modified city streets, combining spectacle and infrastructure.

Dikko added that the bid—backed by BL Practice Hub—is part of a strategic plan to showcase Nigeria’s growing global ambitions and capacity to host world-class events.
