Celebrity stylist Yolanda Okereke is giving fans a peek behind the scenes of The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, produced by EbonyLife Films.
The film, which hits cinemas globally in December 2026, adapts Lola Shoneyin’s popular 2010 novel.
Okereke tells Nollywire that turning a well-loved book into a film is no small task. “It’s not just any story. Fans already feel deeply connected to the characters,” she says.
The original novel, celebrated internationally and translated into several languages, explores polygamy, family life, and social hierarchy making it a significant piece of African literature.
For Okereke, costume design is about much more than picking pretty clothes. “Clothing is the first layer of storytelling,” she explains.
“The audience should understand a character just by how they appear. Are they reserved or expressive? Affluent or pretending to be? All of that needs to show visually.”
With multiple wives living under one roof, wardrobe choices also show tension and rivalry. “In a compound with four wives, there’s always drama,” she adds, explaining how the clothes subtly highlight hierarchy and conflicts.
While keeping many details secret, Okereke promises that fans will enjoy the visual storytelling. The movie stars Odunlade Adekola as Baba Segi, alongside Iyabo Ojo, Mercy Aigbe, Bimbo Ademoye, Omowunmi Dada, Shaffy Bello, and others. Directed by Daniel Oriahi and adapted for screen by Adze Ugah, the film promises to bring the characters to life in every detail.
