The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has assured passengers on the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service that recent disruptions along the route are temporary and not due to neglect or indifference.

In a statement on Tuesday signed by Chief Public Relations Officer Callistus Unyimadu, the NRC acknowledged passengers’ concerns and emphasised that their feedback is valued. “We appreciate the passion, concern, and sense of national responsibility expressed.

These are genuine sentiments shared by a concerned customer and patriotic Nigerians. We value all our customers and take every feedback seriously,” the statement read.

The Corporation described the Abuja-Kaduna corridor as a flagship service in Nigeria’s rail revival. “It is therefore understandable that any disruption, no matter how minimal, is widely felt,” the statement said, noting the inconvenience caused by the August 26 derailment that damaged key Diesel Multiple Unit rolling stock.

NRC explained that the current reduction in service frequency stems from two major challenges. The first is the March 2022 terrorist attack on the corridor, which resulted in fatalities and trauma. The incident prompted the Corporation to prioritise safety, revise operating procedures, restrict late trips, and strengthen security partnerships with the Armed Forces and Police.

The second challenge is the recent derailment at Asham Station, which damaged several coaches and reduced the number of serviceable units. Repairs and refurbishments are ongoing, and additional coaches are being deployed to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.

“These challenges do not represent a decline in our commitment. They reflect a phase of recovery, restoration, and rebuilding,” the NRC said, highlighting the Federal Government’s support under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The Minister of Transport remains actively engaged in fast-tracking the full restoration of services.

The Corporation noted that damaged coaches are being repaired and certified for safe return, with alternative rolling stock considered for temporary reinforcement where feasible. Security measures across the corridor continue to be a top priority, and restoring multiple daily trips remains a key operational goal.

Passengers were urged to remain patient as the NRC works to fully normalise services, with assurances that progressive improvements will be evident soon.
