Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has revealed that he dedicated his goal against Mozambique to his mother, who was hospitalised before Nigeria’s 4–0 victory in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations round-of-16 match on Monday

Adams scored his first goal of the tournament in the 70th minute, completing Nigeria’s dominant performance, and also assisted Ademola Lookman’s opener while playing a key role in Victor Osimhen’s second goal.

Speaking in the mixed zone after the game, the 25-year-old said the goal was for his mother, who had planned to watch the match. “Glory to God for scoring my first AFCON goal, like many of you have been waiting for. But the goal is dedicated to my mum,” Adams said.

“She’s supposed to be here, but she’s in the hospital right now. She was admitted this morning, but she’s much better now.”

The goal takes Adams’ overall tally for Nigeria to three goals and three assists in eight appearances. He made his Super Eagles debut in October 2025 during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, scoring in a 2–1 win over Lesotho.
