Nigeria’s Super Eagles have reportedly threatened to boycott their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match against Algeria in Marrakech unless the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) clears all outstanding winning bonuses
Multiple journalists on the ground in Morocco, including Adepoju Tobi Samuel, have reported that the players are demanding payment of their entitlements before participating in the fixture.

BBC journalist Olúwashínà Okeleji also confirmed the standoff, noting that both players and officials were still waiting for payments.
“Players and coaching staff of #Nigeria are waiting on #AFCON2025 bonus payments,” Okeleji tweeted. He added that win bonuses from four previous matches—against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and Mozambique—have yet to be received.
While the squad remains focused on the tournament, they have reportedly drawn a firm line over the unpaid bonuses. “Squad remain focused but will NOT train or travel to Marrakech on Thursday if this isn’t resolved,” Okeleji stated.
SaharaReporters reached out to the NFF for comment, but calls and messages to the federation’s Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, went unanswered.
This is not the first time the Super Eagles have raised concerns over unpaid bonuses. In November, the team threatened to boycott a World Cup qualifier against Gabon for similar reasons.
Nigerian sports journalist Pooja, who is covering the team in Morocco, confirmed the latest development on X, writing: “BREAKING NEWS: Super Eagles players & officials boycott training today in Morocco because of unresolved issues with outstanding payments. This is really sad.”
